The Chazazon Canyon is situated in the north of the Judea Desert,
about 45 min. from Jerusalem. It is the deepest canyon that is suitable for canyoning, and a truly amazing place. It is also the longest and hardest hike and is suitable for experienced hikers that can endure a very long day.
Info about the hike:
The hike starts the entrance to the Kibbutz Mitspe Shalem along on highway 90 close to the Dead Sea.
From there we will hike up its north bank for about 3 hours to the desert plato and enter the canyon. Some difficult terrain with a bit of scrambling will lead us to the top waterfall of 120 meters! From there on we will spend the rest of the hike rappelling down its waterfalls and finish with a short hike back to the parking lot.
Winter floods fill small pools with water throughout the canyon, and when they are full we will need to swim through them.
There are 4 rappels in the canyon, the highest 120 meters (230 feet). It is possible to bypass the highest rappel through a smaller just to the south.
Level of difficulty:
: Hard. Participants should be experienced hikers with prior rappelling experience. For first time rappellers it is advisable to combine this trip with one of the other easier canyons first.
